In order to provide bursaries for local young women graduating from secondary school, as well as for mature women in our community who are continuing with their post-secondary education, our club usually undertakes a major fundraising project every second year. In the past, these have included book sales, sales of previously-owned art, and musical concerts. Most recently, we have hosted several choral concerts featuring South Delta Sounds (award-winning choirs from South Delta Secondary School), under the gifted direction of Danielle Hamilton, performing together with the highly-regarded Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir, under the dynamic leadership of Jonathan Quick. Generous donations from various local businesses have enabled us to host these events which have been enthusiastically received by the South Delta community. Thanks to the synergy of these choirs and businesses working alongside our club, we have been able to continue the proud tradition of offering educational bursaries to local students, a worthy aim which was begun in the 1960s by the founding members of CFUW South Delta.
Shuswap Coffee Cafe Femenino
Annually we place three or four orders with Shuswap Coffee for their delicious Cafe Femenino. The organic Arabica coffee beans are roasted in Salmon Arm. Grown by female farmers in Central and South America in bird friendly and shaded areas, the beans are sold as a certified Fair Trade product. The result is not only an excellent coffee, but also supports and improves life for women and their families in their rural communities. Cafe Femenino is offered in beans and drip grind in both regular and decaffeinated roasts. We are happy to receive orders from the public.
Fundscrip
FundScrip is an established, Canada-wide fundraising program in which supporters pay for their shopping (groceries, gas, home & garden, entertainment, restaurants, gifts and much more) with gift cards. Each purchase of a card automatically includes a donation (from 2-10+%) to the fundraiser. For example, White Spot Restaurant recently offered a 13% donation on their gift cards, i.e. $13 dollars donated on every $100 purchased. This program is available all year, but is particularly popular during the Holiday Season. We are happy to have members of the public support our program.
Cedar Rim Nursery Fundraiser
Cedar Rim is an excellent nursery in Langley with a great selection of everything garden related, i.e., plants, pots, trees, tools, etc. We held our initial Cedar Rim Fundraiser Spring 2024, and it was very successful. We are allowed two per calendar year. Our Bursary Fund receives 20% of the gift card total. Cards are available in denominations of $25, $50 and $100. They never expire. Note that they can be used on location only, not online. They work for all nursery items, gifts, courses and gift cards. We are happy to receive orders from the public.
