From its beginnings in 1966, CFUW-SD has provided funding in the form of bursaries or scholarships to local women who are Canadian Citizens, residents of South Delta or graduates of a South Delta High School and enrolled in post-secondary education for the upcoming fall term. Now, each year, students who meet these criteria are invited to apply by the end of May for consideration.
Since 1995, there are generally two bursaries awarded to local high school students, up to six bursaries awarded to mature students and one biennial scholarship of $3,000 to a UBC Graduate Student in Fine Arts, Nursing or Social Work. The amount of award funds available each year may fluctuate depending on the success of numerous fundraising activities.
We are very grateful that our educational support program has been able to grow so rapidly in the last three decades. For example, in 1995 four high school students and one mature student shared an award pool of $2,500. By 2023 a total of nine women shared $15,000 in bursary and scholarship awards. Overall, a total of 178 women have shared in an award pool of over $200,000 between 1995 and 2023.
